Shabbat, the extraordinary gift that has been given to the Jewish people, is an everlasting symbol between God and the Jewish people. Just like God created the world in six days and “rested,” so too are we bidden to set aside our worldly weekly endeavors and do the same. From this week’s parasha, Kee Tisah, we learn that observing the Shabbat takes precedence even over building the Mishkan, the Tabernacle.
To appreciate how difficult decisions made decades ago have had a long-term impact upon Shabbat observance and the overall Jewish community, read Rabbi Buchwald’s cogent analysis entitled: “Shabbat as a Priority in Jewish Life” from Rabbi Ephraim Z. Buchwald’s Torah message for Parashat Kee Tisah 5784-2024. Out of respect for Shabbat, please consider printing it on Friday afternoon if you plan to read it on Shabbat.
