Accepting criticism is never easy, but if it’s offered in a respectful way by someone who is sincere and appears to mean well, try and accept it graciously.
Jethro’s criticism of Moses, the leader of the Jewish people in Egypt, may have been hard for Moses to accept, even from his father-in-law, though there is a profound lesson to be learned how Judaism views accepting what turns out to be sage advice.
To appreciate the Torah ‘s approach to accepting advice from both Jew and gentile, read this enlightening analysis entitled: “An Encounter with Jethro and the Non-Jewish World” from Rabbi Ephraim Z. Buchwald’s Torah message for Yitro 5779-2019. Out of respect for Shabbat, please consider printing it on Friday afternoon if you plan to read it on Shabbat.
