To help us prepare for parashat Devarim this Shabbat, also known as Shabbat Chazon, click here to read a fascinating explanation by NJOP’s Director Rabbi Ephraim Z. Buchwald entitled “Eicha, The Annual Search for Meaning and Introspection” concerning the significance of the word “Eicha,” not only in the book of Lamentations but also in parashat Devarim.
Given the calamities that have befallen the Jewish people throughout the millennia, and the rebuke issued by the prophet Jeremiah which still resonates to this day, we’d be well-served to reconsider our actions and reform our ways by heeding the words of our sages as recorded in the third chapter of Pirkei Avot, Ethics of the Fathers; “Reflect upon three things and you will not come to the hands of transgression. Know from where you came, where you are going, and before whom you are destined to give a judgement and accounting.”
Join thousands around the world who will be studying the third chapter of Ethics of our Fathers this Shabbat. Print out your copy before Shabbat and enjoy a truly uplifting learning experience.
