Remember to cover your eyes and concentrate when reciting the Shema.
Each day, we are given an opportunity to fulfil a Biblical commandment by reciting the Shema. When we do, we testify to the oneness of God and our relationship to Him. The fourteenth Mishna of the third chapter of Pirkei Avot, Ethics of the Fathers elaborates on that relationship that we have to God, namely that we were created in God’s image. In fact, the Torah records that we are to be thought of as children of God.
To appreciate the incredible breadth of wisdom contained in the Torah and to live a more spiritually elevated life, print out the third chapter of Ethics of the Fathers this afternoon, before Shabbat, and join thousands of fellow Jews around the globe who will be enjoying an uplifting experience and inspired discussions this Shabbat.
