There is more than meets the eye. Study the Torah portion and its commentaries to learn the deeper meaning and significance of tzitzit.
While the Torah admonishes a person in this week’s Torah portion, Shelach to be careful not to “… follow your heart and eyes after which you stray,” in the third chapter of Pirkei Avot, Ethics of the Fathers that will be studied this Shabbat, we are taught that it is critical to remember Torah teachings that have been studied and observed with a person’s own eyes: “Rabbi Dostai ben Rabbi Yannai said in the name of Rabbi Meir: whoever forgets one word of his study, scripture accounts it to him as if he were mortally guilty, as it is said, “But take utmost care and watch yourselves scrupulously, so that you do not forget the things that you saw with your own eyes.” To learn more, study the third chapter of Pirkei Avot.
Out of respect for Shabbat, please consider printing the 3rd chapter of Pirkei Avot on Friday afternoon if you plan to read them on Shabbat.
