While welcoming Chanukah by lighting the menorah, and Shabbat, by lighting Shabbat candles this afternoon, take a moment to appreciate the special opportunity we have been given to celebrate our wonderful Jewish heritage.

In a world where ethics and morality have fallen by the wayside and where assimilation runs rampant, Chanukah provides the Jewish people with an opportunity to rekindle our commitment to Jewish values and Jewish practice, and thereby, strengthen ourselves and positively impact upon our Jewish brothers and sisters.
