There is much to learn from the many Jewish benefactors like Baron Edmond James de Rothschild who helped lay the foundation for modern day Israel.
Life in this world is of limited time of duration, and regardless of the wealth that a person amasses in this world, the phrase “you can’t take it with you” is really an apt description of what transpires when that person leaves this world. In the 9th Mishna of the sixth chapter of Pirkei Avot/Ethics of the Fathers, we are reminded of the Torah’s view of what we should be mindful of during our sojourn in this world in view of awaits us in the world to come. We are taught “… for when a man passes away there accompany him neither gold nor silver, nor precious stones nor pearls, but Torah and good deeds alone.”
To appreciate the incredible breadth of wisdom contained in the Torah and to live a more spiritually elevated life, print out the sixth chapter of Ethics of the Fathers this afternoon, before Shabbat, and join thousands of fellow Jews around the globe who will be enjoying an uplifting experience and inspired discussions this Shabbat.
