When someone poses a question, be sure to consider the seriousness of the question and the potential ramifications.
When studying Torah, both the written and oral law, it is critical to learn from the example of the daughters of Zelophchad of studying the Torah and thoughtfully posing a well-considered query as to Jewish law. In the first Mishna of the sixth chapter of Pirkei Avot, Ethics of the Fathers, we are taught, “Rabbi Meir said: Whoever engages in Torah study for its own sake merits many things; furthermore, the creation of the entire world is worthwhile for his sake alone.”
To appreciate the incredible breadth of wisdom contained in the Torah and to live a more spiritually elevated life, print out the sixth chapter of Ethics of the Fathers this afternoon, before Shabbat, and join thousands of fellow Jews around the globe who will be enjoying an uplifting experience and inspired discussions this Shabbat.
