Listen closely to another person’s advice since it’s quite possible that they are sharing their wisdom and thereby providing you with a valuable life lesson.
In parashat Miketz, this week’s Torah portion, Joseph, upon his release from prison, appears to step forward in a rather brash way to offer advice to Pharaoh. As is often the case, sometimes there is more than meets the eye that might explain a given situation. Upon careful analysis, Joseph seems to have interpreted Pharaoh’s dreams within the context of how the dreams were described to him.
To appreciate the importance of recognizing God’s hand behind the scenes in everything that transpires, read this enlightening analysis entitled, “Joseph’s Bold Advice to Pharaoh–Revisited” from Rabbi Ephraim Z. Buchwald’s Torah message for Mikeitz 5776-2015. Out of respect for the Shabbat, please consider printing it on Friday afternoon if you plan to read it on Shabbat.
