Passover Across America
Out of an abundance of caution due to the spread of the Coronavirus and heeding the recommendation of medical professionals to forgo large gatherings for the time being, this year NJOP will not be going forward with our sponsorship of Passover Across America Communal Seders. We hope to reinstate the grant initiative in future years. We pray for the speedy and complete recovery of all those who have contracted the virus and the safety of all others. Thank you for your understanding.
NJOP would like to invite you to apply to participate in Passover Across America 2020. Simply agree to run an explanatory Communal Outreach Passover Seder open to all Jews on Wednesday night, April 8, 2020, and/or Thursday night, April 9, 2020. The goal of the program is to enable Jewish organizations and synagogues to offer a hands-on explanatory seder to Jews of limited religious background, helping participants develop a deeper understanding of, and appreciation for, the seder’s customs and rituals.
If your application is accepted, NJOP will offer you up to $1,000 toward certain expenses (see below). Up to seventy locations will be selected.
How can you spend the $1,000?
The stipend can only be used to promote, enhance or increase the reach of your Passover Across America Seder. NJOP wants you to upgrade your seder program or augment your advertising with the stipend. Acceptable ways of using the stipend include: providing subsidies to those who would hesitate to attend due to cost, buying prizes for children, upgrading the menu to draw more participants, or spending the money on advertising, marketing and promotional efforts (Facebook ads, or if effective, local media).
How can you apply?
(Passover Across America will not to place in 2020. Please see message at the top of page for more details. We hope to reinstate the program for Passover 2021.)
To apply and be eligible to receive up to $1,000 towards promoting and enhancing your program:
1. Fill out an application for our Passover Across America grant.
2. In order for your application to be accepted, you will need to register for one of the following NJOP educational programs: a Hebrew Reading Crash Course, a Level II Hebrew Reading Crash Course, a Crash Course in Basic Judaism or a Crash Course in Jewish History. The course you choose should run sometime between Passover and the High Holidays, or, if impractical, during the fall of 2020.
